Effective Communication With Kitchen Remodelers
Kitchen Remodeling May 15
Kitchens are a house's most complex part to remodel because one has a lot of variables to keep in mind. Deciding whether to get a cooking range or not, what cabinetry to install, or deciding which floors are most suitable, a considerable amount of work goes into the project. The potential for things to go wrong is high, and one way to minimize it is to communicate effectively. With the different people who have to collaborate on a kitchen design such as the contractors, designers, and subcontractors, communication must take center stage. A few best practices will make communication with the remodel team easier.
Identify Goals
The biggest contributor to failed kitchen remodeling projects is miscommunication about goals. Before a homeowner begins a remodel, he or she should know what the project aims to achieve and explain it to the contractor and designer. Objectives have to factor in what the room will be used for and how much the homeowner intends to spend on it. If kitchens have to be designed to entertain guests every week, then the remodeling team must fulfill this requirement. If it is an island kitchen, this should be a focal point of the project. The remodeling team can correct a homeowner if some objectives are not realistic.
Details Are Important
Another problem during kitchen design that most contractors encounter is lack of information. When presenting the vision of the project, it is necessary for the homeowner to give all the details possible. A contractor would rather have too many details than not have enough. For a remodel project to be successful, the team working on it must know the expectations of the client, and detailed instructions will provide that. Idea books are great tools for a homeowner who wants to lay out what he or she wants to achieve. Using pictures, diagrams, and text, one can avoid misunderstandings during the remodel process.
Communication Should Be Regular
A common mistake that some homeowners commit is to talk with the remodel team at the beginning of the project and then forget about getting updates. One has to stay informed of what is happening at every step of the project, and that means daily updates at the least. Before the team can proceed with the remodel, they should inform the homeowner how far they have gone. Doing this allows the client to see if the timeline will be met. Clients should be able to call contractors any time to have answers to concerns about the remodel. A kitchen design may fail to meet its full potential and lead to wasting of money and energy just because the people involved did not communicate as required. Communication allows remodelers and their clients to understand what they intend to accomplish with the project, which provides a clear blueprint to work with.

From start to finish Kurtis was a great company to work with. From the initial contact and design concept with Gregory Holster to the cabinet drop off team, the install team led by project manager Jeff Tuomi and the countertop company, the project was on time and all work was performed beyond expectations. This was greatly appreciated seeing as it was completed on December 23. All the people involved were professional and did an excellent job.
Shanna was our project consultant. Picking out cabinets along with counters can be somewhat overwhelming but her knowledge & experience helped us make the right decisions. Dylan & Juwan unloaded truck & Dylan check off ship ticket to make sure all boxes were accounted for. Courteous & pleasant to talk to…nice job of stacking everything neatly in our garage. We couldn't be more pleased with the service & so happy with our kitchen
We recently worked with Lauren on cabinetry for a master bathroom renovation. She was great to work on the design and selections. Lauren was efficient and responsive from cabinet selection through ordering. Our overall installation was smooth. We had some unforeseen circumstances impacting our ability to accept delivery of our cabinets on the initial agreed upon date. Kurtis was very accommodating in rescheduling delivery given our project challenges. We couldn't be happier with our cabinets for this project.
We had complete renovations to our kitchen and main bathroom. From start to finish, the design with Shanna was exactly what we asked for and Jeff stayed on top of the renovations, communicating each step of the way. Every worker was professional and the final product is elegant and functional. We were very happy with Kurtis and would choose Shanna and Jeff again.
We love our new kitchen! Kurtis Kitchen & Bath did an outstanding job, and Adrian at the Clarkston location was exceptional to work with—creative, patient, and really listened to what we wanted. The project was well-organized, and we went from demo to a fully functioning kitchen in just 30 days. Highly recommend!
