At some point, most people will probably decide that they need to do some kitchen remodeling in Clarkston. Whether it’s to get a space that is more functional, updated, or to increase the value of their home, this work needs to be done right. There’s been a large push recently for people to do their own projects. The claim is that it will save owners money and give them a sense of pride in completing a particular task. While both of these may very well be true, it can also turn into a major ordeal and take much longer than expected. It’s not impossible for homeowners to learn DIY skills if they don’t already possess them, but this might be something better left for smaller projects. Conducting kitchen remodeling in Livonia, if it’s going to be done right, should be left to a professional. Below are some of the top reasons why a homeowner should work with a contractor.

1. Expertise

A contractor got into the business for a reason. They enjoy building things and helping people get the homes of their dreams. They have the experience and expertise to handle practically any remodel project. More than likely, they’ve seen and had to deal with a lot of unexpected issues. From mold to faulty wiring to things not built to code and everything in between, they’ve probably had to deal with these issues at some point in their careers. Even if they haven’t seen everything, they have the skills and knowledge to figure out how to fix a problem if it arises. It’s possible that a homeowner can also do this, but a contractor will require less time and has contacts they can get a hold of to help them. If a person wants their home to look amazing and sophisticated, then they need to hire a professional to do the job right. They should be able to let the homeowner know if their ideas for the upgrade are feasible and offer ideas to make it even better.

2. Skills

In addition to expertise, a contractor will also have the skills and knowledge to do a variety of different jobs. From installing countertops to hanging cabinets to hooking up a faucet, they know which tools will work best for which job and how to troubleshoot any issues that may arise. Since they’ve been doing it for so long, it won’t take them long to accomplish any task.

3. Contacts

As mentioned previously, a contractor will have contacts that they can get in touch with if something should go wrong during the upgrade. This could include issues with plumbing, electrical, mold, or anything else that they may not have the license or experience to fix. In addition, they also have contact with a variety of different vendors that they use for supplies. That means that if a homeowner wants something special for their upgrade, such as custom cabinets or a particular type of marble for their countertops, the contractor will more than likely be able to get it for them.

4. The Right Tools

Having skills and experience is all well and good, but it’s also important to have the right tools. Since contractors work every day to get people the homes they want, they have taken the time and money to invest in tools that will make the job easier and get it done right. Again, it’s possible for a homeowner to do this too, but if the tool is only going to be used once and is incredibly expensive, they may forgo buying it. There’s no point in wasting money on something that won’t get used. For a contractor, however, they will use the tool more than once, so it’s worth the investment.

5. Safety Knowledge

Contractors want to keep working. To do that, they have to be knowledgeable about safety practices and stay up to date on local and national construction codes. They know which permits to get for which jobs, and they know what needs to be done to keep their employees, the homeowners, and the property safe—and they will make sure that everyone abides by the safety rules.

6. Understanding

If a person hires a family-friendly contractor, they may find a person who is incredibly understanding and empathetic to upgrades that go on in a home. If they have a family themselves, they know how tough it can be for the house to be turned upside down to get work done and do what they can to lessen the burden. Even if a contractor doesn’t have a family of their own, they will probably understand that having the kitchen or bathroom out of commission so it can be remodeled will be tough on the home’s occupants. They may suggest ways to overcome the problem or strive to get the work complete as soon as possible so that the family can get back to their lives.

7. They Work Fast

Again, contractors have the skill and expertise to do a lot of different jobs around the home, which means that they don’t have to learn as they go. This can make the process of getting the work done go so much more quickly. That’s a good thing for the occupants because then they can get back to their lives sooner.

8. Savings

Sure, a person will have to pay for labor and materials when they get their house worked on, but this can actually end up saving them money in the long run. If they were to attempt doing the same work themselves, how much longer would it take them than a professional to complete? Time is also money. In addition, if they mess something up, they’ll have to pay to have it fixed. Having the work done right the first time can add up to huge savings.

From start to finish Kurtis was a great company to work with. From the initial contact and design concept with Gregory Holster to the cabinet drop off team, the install team led by project manager Jeff Tuomi and the countertop company, the project was on time and all work was performed beyond expectations. This was greatly appreciated seeing as it was completed on December 23. All the people involved were professional and did an excellent job.

Shanna was our project consultant. Picking out cabinets along with counters can be somewhat overwhelming but her knowledge & experience helped us make the right decisions. Dylan & Juwan unloaded truck & Dylan check off ship ticket to make sure all boxes were accounted for. Courteous & pleasant to talk to…nice job of stacking everything neatly in our garage. We couldn't be more pleased with the service & so happy with our kitchen

We recently worked with Lauren on cabinetry for a master bathroom renovation. She was great to work on the design and selections. Lauren was efficient and responsive from cabinet selection through ordering. Our overall installation was smooth. We had some unforeseen circumstances impacting our ability to accept delivery of our cabinets on the initial agreed upon date. Kurtis was very accommodating in rescheduling delivery given our project challenges. We couldn't be happier with our cabinets for this project.

We had complete renovations to our kitchen and main bathroom. From start to finish, the design with Shanna was exactly what we asked for and Jeff stayed on top of the renovations, communicating each step of the way. Every worker was professional and the final product is elegant and functional. We were very happy with Kurtis and would choose Shanna and Jeff again.

We love our new kitchen! Kurtis Kitchen & Bath did an outstanding job, and Adrian at the Clarkston location was exceptional to work with—creative, patient, and really listened to what we wanted. The project was well-organized, and we went from demo to a fully functioning kitchen in just 30 days. Highly recommend!
