3 Tips for Planning a Remodel of Your Kitchen
Kitchen Remodeling , Tips for homeowners Jan 14
Planning your dream kitchen is exciting work, but it’s also time consuming and expensive. The emotional demands of the process can often be exhausting and many get overwhelmed in the early stages. The payoff, on the other hand, is that the kitchen of your dreams will now be at your disposal for the rest of your time in your home. Veterans of the process have learned to manage the difficulties with as little stress as humanly possible. If you’re planning the remodeling of your kitchen in the Royal Oak area, their advice can help you navigate the choppier waters.
1. Thinking about Your Needs
The most exciting part of the process is going to be the planning. That will entail going onto various websites, through catalogs, and checking out local Royal Oak stores for examples of kitchens that you really like. Take pictures, save photographs, and make print outs of all the parts and pieces of kitchens that you’re in love with, and then settle on a layout and design that’s within your budget. If you want to cut costs, considering leaving much of the original kitchen’s layout in place. It’s going to cost you a lot more money if you choose to move gas lines and plumbing around. That money can be better spent on appliances, cabinetry, countertops, paint, and more.
2. Thinking about Your Budget
At the same time, you’re going to want to have an established budget in place. There may be some areas where you can save money on. If you’re not in love with the way your cabinets look, but don’t have an issue with how they work, you might think about investing in refacing them as opposed to replacing them. While not all cabinets are candidates for refacing, those that are will save you a considerable amount of money if you choose not to replace them entirely. That will free up some of your budget for other stuff, since the cost of cabinets will be one of the largest expenditures you’ll make during a remodel. On the other hand, if you’re not in love with your cabinets, there are affordable options that look quite nice.
3. Thinking about the Floorplan
As stated earlier, you will save a great deal of money by not moving around plumbing and gas lines. The overall floorplan however, is a key component of what you want to do. You want to make sure it works with what you want in terms of cupboards, cabinets, and counter space, and you want the overall design to be both ergonomic and beautiful. For home chefs, designing the kitchen around the stove and having ample counter space is a must. You might consider installing an island or investing in a smoker. Each of these will need to be considered in terms of layout. The process is exciting, but the labor can be intensive. Don’t get overwhelmed, and try to enjoy the process!

From start to finish Kurtis was a great company to work with. From the initial contact and design concept with Gregory Holster to the cabinet drop off team, the install team led by project manager Jeff Tuomi and the countertop company, the project was on time and all work was performed beyond expectations. This was greatly appreciated seeing as it was completed on December 23. All the people involved were professional and did an excellent job.
Shanna was our project consultant. Picking out cabinets along with counters can be somewhat overwhelming but her knowledge & experience helped us make the right decisions. Dylan & Juwan unloaded truck & Dylan check off ship ticket to make sure all boxes were accounted for. Courteous & pleasant to talk to…nice job of stacking everything neatly in our garage. We couldn't be more pleased with the service & so happy with our kitchen
We recently worked with Lauren on cabinetry for a master bathroom renovation. She was great to work on the design and selections. Lauren was efficient and responsive from cabinet selection through ordering. Our overall installation was smooth. We had some unforeseen circumstances impacting our ability to accept delivery of our cabinets on the initial agreed upon date. Kurtis was very accommodating in rescheduling delivery given our project challenges. We couldn't be happier with our cabinets for this project.
We had complete renovations to our kitchen and main bathroom. From start to finish, the design with Shanna was exactly what we asked for and Jeff stayed on top of the renovations, communicating each step of the way. Every worker was professional and the final product is elegant and functional. We were very happy with Kurtis and would choose Shanna and Jeff again.
We love our new kitchen! Kurtis Kitchen & Bath did an outstanding job, and Adrian at the Clarkston location was exceptional to work with—creative, patient, and really listened to what we wanted. The project was well-organized, and we went from demo to a fully functioning kitchen in just 30 days. Highly recommend!
