Adding an Outdoor Grill Area to Make the Most Out of Summer

Kitchen Remodeling Jun 24

When it comes to home remodeling, the sky's the limit in terms of how much fun homeowners can have with their project. While having a kitchen remodeled is standard in any major home decor overhaul, a less obvious - though potentially equally attractive - option is having an outdoor grill area installed in order to get the most out of summer. Of course, the priority in terms of budget is always the interior kitchen, since that's the one that homeowners will use every day, all year 'round. However, if the homeowners find themselves with the budget to allocate to an outdoor kitchen, they may very well be surprised at how eventful the upcoming summer will be. In the vast sea of kitchen remodeling ideas, homeowners might benefit greatly from turning their attention out the window, into the backyard.

Adding a New Element to Barbecues and Pool Parties

Barbecues and pool parties by no means require an outdoor grill area in order to be fun for everyone involved. However, backyard events that feature grill areas are way more fun, since homeowners don't have to go inside to cook while everyone else is having all the fun. Simply gather the ingredients and cooking tools outside and get cooking!

Granite is Highly Weather Resistant

A primary deterrent with outdoor kitchens is the lack of weather resistance in certain materials. Wood, for instance, won't last several weeks under moderate rainfall without showing visible signs of peeling. However, thankfully, granite is by all appearances totally immune to rainwater. Indeed, granite can survive a lengthy snowstorm without deteriorating if it had to. Homeowners should keep in mind that the granite materials sold today have been around for millions of years, surviving all assortments of weather conditions. Therefore, there's no need to worry about a bit of rainfall ruining the new outdoor grill area.

Ensure a Proper Installation

That being said, it's important to make sure that the outdoor countertop is properly installed. While rainfall won't weaken the material, it's possible that prolonged humidity will damage the glue that holds the material to the cabinetry, which risks the pieces falling out of place during heavy wind and rainfall. Experienced granite installers know how to adequately set a granite countertop up for outdoor weather conditions. While it might be tempting for homeowners to skip installation costs and take care of the job themselves, especially if the pieces are relatively small and the installation is straightforward, it's best not to risk the grill area coming apart over time. As is the case with all granite installations, homeowners are recommended to contact a professional to take care of the installation.

From start to finish Kurtis was a great company to work with. From the initial contact and design concept with Gregory Holster to the cabinet drop off team, the install team led by project manager Jeff Tuomi and the countertop company, the project was on time and all work was performed beyond expectations. This was greatly appreciated seeing as it was completed on December 23. All the people involved were professional and did an excellent job.

Shanna was our project consultant. Picking out cabinets along with counters can be somewhat overwhelming but her knowledge & experience helped us make the right decisions. Dylan & Juwan unloaded truck & Dylan check off ship ticket to make sure all boxes were accounted for. Courteous & pleasant to talk to…nice job of stacking everything neatly in our garage. We couldn't be more pleased with the service & so happy with our kitchen

We recently worked with Lauren on cabinetry for a master bathroom renovation. She was great to work on the design and selections. Lauren was efficient and responsive from cabinet selection through ordering. Our overall installation was smooth. We had some unforeseen circumstances impacting our ability to accept delivery of our cabinets on the initial agreed upon date. Kurtis was very accommodating in rescheduling delivery given our project challenges. We couldn't be happier with our cabinets for this project.

We had complete renovations to our kitchen and main bathroom. From start to finish, the design with Shanna was exactly what we asked for and Jeff stayed on top of the renovations, communicating each step of the way. Every worker was professional and the final product is elegant and functional. We were very happy with Kurtis and would choose Shanna and Jeff again.

We love our new kitchen! Kurtis Kitchen & Bath did an outstanding job, and Adrian at the Clarkston location was exceptional to work with—creative, patient, and really listened to what we wanted. The project was well-organized, and we went from demo to a fully functioning kitchen in just 30 days. Highly recommend!
