Get to Know the Galley Kitchen Design Layout
Kitchen Remodeling Dec 21
If you have a small home in Livonia and you are doing some kitchen remodeling, you may want to take a look into the galley design layout. This layout is often called the corridor-style layout because the cooking space is sandwiched between two walls that form a corridor. It is a straightforward design that allows you to optimize the available space while making sure that you can work efficiently in the best way possible. Here are some things you need to know to fully understand what the galley style layout can offer your home.
The galley style layout has tons of benefits
Redesign of this layout is easy
Creativity goes a long way for this layout
Go for lighter tones
One of the biggest benefits of this layout is that it uses very little space efficiently. Therefore, you are left with more space to allocate for the other rooms. Even if its space requirements are small, it offers ample countertop space for your cookware and spices. In addition, the small space it needs also results in reduced cost of building this type of layout. The small space it uses also makes sure that everything is kept close to each other, which helps make food preparation a lot more efficient. It makes good use of what’s known as the triangle of work so you can cook faster. With more time saved, you can enjoy the food you prepare much faster than before, with minimal delays due to layout issues.
Since the galley design layout is compact, redesigning it in the future can be done faster compared to other layouts. You can easily move components around to achieve a different look. Moreover, installing upgrades in it is easy too because of its manageable size.
Most people hesitate in using this layout because of the small area to work with. They feel that they can’t be very creative with it, but in reality, it is a lot easier to let the creative juices flow and implement changes in this layout. You can utilize all sides of the kitchen to maximize the space. You can leave no part unused because even the ceilings and the nooks can be put to good use in this layout. For instance, you can simply extend open cabinets into the ceiling so you can keep your cookware there or you can leave the window open on one wall to add an illusion of space.
To make the galley style layout feel more spacious, it is recommended that you use lighter tones for the walls and flooring. The use of lighter color can make the room feel bigger than it is while maintaining all the advantages of having a compact kitchen.

From start to finish Kurtis was a great company to work with. From the initial contact and design concept with Gregory Holster to the cabinet drop off team, the install team led by project manager Jeff Tuomi and the countertop company, the project was on time and all work was performed beyond expectations. This was greatly appreciated seeing as it was completed on December 23. All the people involved were professional and did an excellent job.
Shanna was our project consultant. Picking out cabinets along with counters can be somewhat overwhelming but her knowledge & experience helped us make the right decisions. Dylan & Juwan unloaded truck & Dylan check off ship ticket to make sure all boxes were accounted for. Courteous & pleasant to talk to…nice job of stacking everything neatly in our garage. We couldn't be more pleased with the service & so happy with our kitchen
We recently worked with Lauren on cabinetry for a master bathroom renovation. She was great to work on the design and selections. Lauren was efficient and responsive from cabinet selection through ordering. Our overall installation was smooth. We had some unforeseen circumstances impacting our ability to accept delivery of our cabinets on the initial agreed upon date. Kurtis was very accommodating in rescheduling delivery given our project challenges. We couldn't be happier with our cabinets for this project.
We had complete renovations to our kitchen and main bathroom. From start to finish, the design with Shanna was exactly what we asked for and Jeff stayed on top of the renovations, communicating each step of the way. Every worker was professional and the final product is elegant and functional. We were very happy with Kurtis and would choose Shanna and Jeff again.
We love our new kitchen! Kurtis Kitchen & Bath did an outstanding job, and Adrian at the Clarkston location was exceptional to work with—creative, patient, and really listened to what we wanted. The project was well-organized, and we went from demo to a fully functioning kitchen in just 30 days. Highly recommend!
