Include Unique Countertops Materials in your Dream Kitchen Remodeling

Kitchen Remodeling Jan 24

While you will often hear of people using granite, quartz, soapstone, and common materials for their countertops, there are a couple of lesser-known options that may be perfect if you are remodeling your kitchen and want to do something that will make your space stand out. Glass or concrete will add a unique flair to your new, modern kitchen and if you are environmentally-conscious there are some lesser-known green solutions for new countertops.

Kitchen Remodeling - Make a Statement with Concrete Countertops

Concrete countertops work well in a farmhouse or modern-styled kitchen, but are not something you will find in the majority of homes. However, a professional crew may be required to create and pour the mixture into a form that matches the space well. Concrete slabs can come in a variety of colors and can be textured for a rustic look or polished for a glossy, modern aesthetic. Concrete countertops tend to land at a higher price ranged, so make sure you have space in your budget if you are considering this unique material when remodeling your kitchen.

Kitchen Remodeling - Go Green with Recycled Glass Slab Countertops

These counters, much like their name suggests, are made from recycled glass that is melted into slabs and then used as countertops. There are plenty of styles to choose from, and you can go with an option with glass bits that stand out more, to a more seamless look that would be difficult to distinguish from quartz. The fact that they are made with recycled glass means that they are very eco-friendly, making them the perfect option for those who are environmentally-conscious. They are also non-absorbent, making them very easy to clean. Recycled glass slab countertops are available in lots of unique looks and colors but can be expensive and difficult to obtain.

Kitchen Remodeling - Go Green with Recycled Glass Tile Countertops

Another eco-friendly countertop option to consider when remodeling your home is recycled glass tile countertops. This is made from tiles of recycled glass that are placed over a core of cement similar to ceramic tiles. This option in inexpensive and can be found easily but can be brittle causing it to crack or break more easily. They can be used as countertops, but tend to work better as backsplashes.

Kitchen Remodeling - Create a Unique Look with Non-Recycled Glass

High tensile glass can be made into slabs that can be used for countertops. The great thing about this option for your kitchen remodel is that it is very resistant to bacteria, heat, stains, scratches, and mold. Because they are not widely used, they are going to create a unique look that you will love.

From start to finish Kurtis was a great company to work with. From the initial contact and design concept with Gregory Holster to the cabinet drop off team, the install team led by project manager Jeff Tuomi and the countertop company, the project was on time and all work was performed beyond expectations. This was greatly appreciated seeing as it was completed on December 23. All the people involved were professional and did an excellent job.

Shanna was our project consultant. Picking out cabinets along with counters can be somewhat overwhelming but her knowledge & experience helped us make the right decisions. Dylan & Juwan unloaded truck & Dylan check off ship ticket to make sure all boxes were accounted for. Courteous & pleasant to talk to…nice job of stacking everything neatly in our garage. We couldn't be more pleased with the service & so happy with our kitchen

We recently worked with Lauren on cabinetry for a master bathroom renovation. She was great to work on the design and selections. Lauren was efficient and responsive from cabinet selection through ordering. Our overall installation was smooth. We had some unforeseen circumstances impacting our ability to accept delivery of our cabinets on the initial agreed upon date. Kurtis was very accommodating in rescheduling delivery given our project challenges. We couldn't be happier with our cabinets for this project.

We had complete renovations to our kitchen and main bathroom. From start to finish, the design with Shanna was exactly what we asked for and Jeff stayed on top of the renovations, communicating each step of the way. Every worker was professional and the final product is elegant and functional. We were very happy with Kurtis and would choose Shanna and Jeff again.

We love our new kitchen! Kurtis Kitchen & Bath did an outstanding job, and Adrian at the Clarkston location was exceptional to work with—creative, patient, and really listened to what we wanted. The project was well-organized, and we went from demo to a fully functioning kitchen in just 30 days. Highly recommend!
