Starting a kitchen remodeling project can be exhilarating and overwhelming. Between the budget requirements, the design choices, and the actual demolition and build, it’s easy to get impatient for your new kitchen to become a reality. Understanding how long a project like this should take is crucial, so you won’t be disappointed with each passing day. Read on to learn about the complete timeline for a full kitchen remodel, from a minor facelift lasting just a few weeks to a major remodel that lasts several months.

Initial Meeting

Expect these first steps to take two to three weeks. You must know what kind of kitchen you want before starting. Do your own research first; however, be ready for more meetings once you reach out to a company to start the process. Before your build goes any further, an installation professional will complete a detailed evaluation of your kitchen. This is a very important step to do early in the process and will include measurements of the space, which are critical to ensuring your design plans are a proper fit to your space. The designer will take note of potential demolition requirements, structural changes to the house, and changes to utility access points.

Follow Up Appointments with Your Kitchen Designer

designer helps finalize the overall look, flow, and theme for your kitchen, including organization and special requests. This could require several meetings, especially if you have unique requests or needs. When finished, you will have a complete project list, including accurate estimates and design renderings for you to visualize your new kitchen.

Gather the Materials

Next, you will have to choose cabinets, countertops, appliances, sinks, backsplashes, fixtures, lighting, plumbing, flooring, and paint colors. This step will take as long as you require, but don’t rush it. This is your space, so make sure you get the kitchen you want within the budget you’ve allotted. You will likely need to store some components before the build begins. The area needs to be dry, secure, protected from weather, and of adequate size to hold everything, including pre-built cabinets if you don’t choose to have custom designed cabinetry completed on site. You and your installation professional need to inspect all your products during delivery to prevent later delays because of missing or damaged parts.

Schedule the Installer

Once you sign papers, it can take another month or two to get on the installation schedule. If you choose a popular installer, understand there’s a reason for this popularity. Good installers are in high demand and will have longer wait lists.

The Demolition

The crew will begin with the demolition; this could take a day or two, depending on how extensive your remodel is. Your installation professional will prepare you for the project’s next phase by going over a site preparation list. Prepare an alternate space to move all your kitchen contents to, including food, tableware, pots and pans, as well as your portable appliances, such as the microwave and refrigerator. You may want to include extra food expenses in your budget, as you will lose your food preparation space during the project.

The Build

Once you complete this, expect installation to last about 6 weeks. The installation crew will follow a pre-determined plan customized to your project and designed to maximize efficiency. Inspect each phase to ensure installation meets your satisfaction and to correct any errors as soon as possible. Be certain you are satisfied before making the final payment. Having a plan with a detailed schedule can help you avoid stress and remain patient during the work. Reviews

From start to finish Kurtis was a great company to work with. From the initial contact and design concept with Gregory Holster to the cabinet drop off team, the install team led by project manager Jeff Tuomi and the countertop company, the project was on time and all work was performed beyond expectations. This was greatly appreciated seeing as it was completed on December 23. All the people involved were professional and did an excellent job.

Shanna was our project consultant. Picking out cabinets along with counters can be somewhat overwhelming but her knowledge & experience helped us make the right decisions. Dylan & Juwan unloaded truck & Dylan check off ship ticket to make sure all boxes were accounted for. Courteous & pleasant to talk to…nice job of stacking everything neatly in our garage. We couldn't be more pleased with the service & so happy with our kitchen

We recently worked with Lauren on cabinetry for a master bathroom renovation. She was great to work on the design and selections. Lauren was efficient and responsive from cabinet selection through ordering. Our overall installation was smooth. We had some unforeseen circumstances impacting our ability to accept delivery of our cabinets on the initial agreed upon date. Kurtis was very accommodating in rescheduling delivery given our project challenges. We couldn't be happier with our cabinets for this project.

We had complete renovations to our kitchen and main bathroom. From start to finish, the design with Shanna was exactly what we asked for and Jeff stayed on top of the renovations, communicating each step of the way. Every worker was professional and the final product is elegant and functional. We were very happy with Kurtis and would choose Shanna and Jeff again.

We love our new kitchen! Kurtis Kitchen & Bath did an outstanding job, and Adrian at the Clarkston location was exceptional to work with—creative, patient, and really listened to what we wanted. The project was well-organized, and we went from demo to a fully functioning kitchen in just 30 days. Highly recommend!
