The Next Big Thing in Kitchen Design: 2018 Edition

Have you been reading the blogs? The trends for 2018 in terms of kitchen design are spectacular, so for Utica residents planning a remodeling of their kitchen there’s a number of excellent options to choose from and bandwagons to jump on in terms of contemporary style

1. White Out

All white kitchens have been the go to thing for modern interior designers, but this trend may be trending out. Some don’t want to drink a cup of coffee in the morning in a kitchen that looks like it could be indistinguishable from “The Light. We’re not saying this trend was the worst we’d ever seen, but this level of amorphous minimalism is not a design strategy, but the lack of one. It never really made much sense anyway. Consider the fact that kitchens have a lot of smoke in them. The last thing you want is white walls in a smoky room. It was awful from the get go; a momentary lapse of sanity. Goodbye, white kitchens. Hello color and contrast.

2. Gray Undertones

Gray undertones in a matte finish are trending upward right now. While folks may be moving away from white, they haven’t moved away from bright, and gray undertones lend a sophisticated quality to lighter colors like peach and lighter purples.

3. Ornately Patterned Tile

This trend has come in open rebellion of the “white kitchen”. Ornately patterned tile with bold decorative motifs are going to be a favorite in 2018, and they work well with white too.

4. Reclaimed Wood

Reclaimed wood is popular in general, and so it’s made its way into the kitchen now. The distressed finishes and rustic style are a great option for those that want a little personality in their kitchen, and not just a blank white canvas upon which to imagine better things.

Lauren was efficient and responsive from cabinet selection through ordering. Our overall installation was smooth. We had some unforeseen circumstances impacting our ability to accept delivery of our cabinets on the initial agreed upon date.
