Remodeling Your Kitchen Victorian Style
Kitchen Remodeling Jan 15
If you’ve ever dreamed of remodeling your Livonia kitchen an old Victorian style, there are a number of ideas for integrating a Victorian aesthetic with the needs of a modern kitchen. One of the major trends in modern kitchens is that they tend to be much brighter than they were in Victorian days, and the Victorian motif tends to lend itself to darker as opposed to brighter. Nonetheless, it ornamental molding, and an overall romantic style are some of the hallmarks that remain in modern adaptations of Victorian style. Kitchens are not well known for repurposing antique offerings, but antique style cabinetry is not outside the realm of possibility. For those that are adventurous enough to install the cabinets themselves, there’s quite a lot that can be done to even modern cabinets.
The trick would be to focus on the drawer faces and the doors. If you’re not one of the folks that has jumped on the bandwagon of ultra-white kitchens, then you’ll have a lot more room to work with when it comes to using Victorian design. While even the staunchest purists wouldn’t consider using wood burning stoves in their kitchen, Victorian motifs are often characterized by the ornately crafted woodwork. Investing in Victorian style cabinets is not outside the realm of possibility, and finding cupboards and countertops to match isn’t either. Wooden countertops pair nicely with Victorian cabinets. Victorian kitchens, of course, tend to be heavy on the woodwork, and for purists, those will want to be stained as opposed to painted. For the true purists, antique style stoves can be found that have all the modern functionality of today’s stoves, but look like they came straight out of an old movie. “Vintage stoves are becoming popular,” says one design specialist.
“There’s a lot of interest in them because of how they look, but in most cases, these are top quality stoves that are being built and designed for people that take their kitchens really seriously. These obviously aren’t for folks that want your standard kitchen to make grilled cheese in, so if you’re interested in going full on with a Victorian remodel, checking out some of these antique looking stoves is going to be worth the effort. ”“Antique style cabinetry is popular too, and some of it comes in a muted lighter color, sort of like an ivory or a creamier white,” she continued. “You have your choice of darks too. These usually come in a matte finish, and the woodwork looks distressed, it creates a very unique, quite beautiful effect. ”“It’s definitely still possible to do Victorian in a modern kitchen. Victorian is one of those things that will never go fully out of style. The craftsmanship is unparalleled, even to this day.”

From start to finish Kurtis was a great company to work with. From the initial contact and design concept with Gregory Holster to the cabinet drop off team, the install team led by project manager Jeff Tuomi and the countertop company, the project was on time and all work was performed beyond expectations. This was greatly appreciated seeing as it was completed on December 23. All the people involved were professional and did an excellent job.
Shanna was our project consultant. Picking out cabinets along with counters can be somewhat overwhelming but her knowledge & experience helped us make the right decisions. Dylan & Juwan unloaded truck & Dylan check off ship ticket to make sure all boxes were accounted for. Courteous & pleasant to talk to…nice job of stacking everything neatly in our garage. We couldn't be more pleased with the service & so happy with our kitchen
We recently worked with Lauren on cabinetry for a master bathroom renovation. She was great to work on the design and selections. Lauren was efficient and responsive from cabinet selection through ordering. Our overall installation was smooth. We had some unforeseen circumstances impacting our ability to accept delivery of our cabinets on the initial agreed upon date. Kurtis was very accommodating in rescheduling delivery given our project challenges. We couldn't be happier with our cabinets for this project.
We had complete renovations to our kitchen and main bathroom. From start to finish, the design with Shanna was exactly what we asked for and Jeff stayed on top of the renovations, communicating each step of the way. Every worker was professional and the final product is elegant and functional. We were very happy with Kurtis and would choose Shanna and Jeff again.
We love our new kitchen! Kurtis Kitchen & Bath did an outstanding job, and Adrian at the Clarkston location was exceptional to work with—creative, patient, and really listened to what we wanted. The project was well-organized, and we went from demo to a fully functioning kitchen in just 30 days. Highly recommend!
