Step by Step Guide to Remodel a Kitchen
It might sound like a complex venture, but a kitchen remodel in or near Royal Oak doesn’t have to be as daunting as it first seems. Breaking down the process into simpler steps can help people tackle this project. Whether doing the remodel as a DIY project or hiring a professional contractor, taking things step by step helps significantly. The first step to take is pulling everything apart. If the cabinets are going to be replaced or refurbished, first they need to be taken down. The demolition phase can be overwhelming, but it is necessary in the overall process. It is important to be thorough during this phase and not skip any details. Otherwise, it can cause serious complications later. Next, take a close inspection of the plumbing.
During an upgrade is the perfect time to replace any old plumbing systems and make sure they are functioning well. Generally, it best to hire a professional plumber to look at these things and make sure they are implemented to a high standard. It can save a lot of money in the long run to invest in the plumbing during the remodeling phase. If hiring a professional contractor for the upgrade or the plumbing, it is important to do thorough research before committing to someone. One option is asking around the neighborhood or amongst family and friends if they have any personal recommendations. Finding someone through word of mouth can help to shape a better professional opinion about them. If researching online, pay close attention to their professional credentials, history and products and services offered. Another job that needs to take place during remodeling is the electrics.
Often lighting needs to be replaced and this is a good time to do it. However, making wise decisions about these things can save time and money during the process. For instance, if the lighting system is working fine, consider adding some lamps or light tracking so that the electrics don’t need to be replaced. Also, with appliances, it is often worth leaving them in the place they already so that their electrics don’t need to be pulled up. These are things that need to be discussed thoroughly with a professional. After the behind the scenes details have been taken care of, one of the final steps in a remodeling venture is painting the walls. Before the final layer of paint is added, the walls should be sanded and cleaned thoroughly. It is also best to paint before new cabinets are installed or before their refurbishing has been completed. It is fine to paint the walls as a DIY job, but ensuring the right brushes and paints are invested in is important.

From start to finish Kurtis was a great company to work with. From the initial contact and design concept with Gregory Holster to the cabinet drop off team, the install team led by project manager Jeff Tuomi and the countertop company, the project was on time and all work was performed beyond expectations. This was greatly appreciated seeing as it was completed on December 23. All the people involved were professional and did an excellent job.
Shanna was our project consultant. Picking out cabinets along with counters can be somewhat overwhelming but her knowledge & experience helped us make the right decisions. Dylan & Juwan unloaded truck & Dylan check off ship ticket to make sure all boxes were accounted for. Courteous & pleasant to talk to…nice job of stacking everything neatly in our garage. We couldn't be more pleased with the service & so happy with our kitchen
We recently worked with Lauren on cabinetry for a master bathroom renovation. She was great to work on the design and selections. Lauren was efficient and responsive from cabinet selection through ordering. Our overall installation was smooth. We had some unforeseen circumstances impacting our ability to accept delivery of our cabinets on the initial agreed upon date. Kurtis was very accommodating in rescheduling delivery given our project challenges. We couldn't be happier with our cabinets for this project.
We had complete renovations to our kitchen and main bathroom. From start to finish, the design with Shanna was exactly what we asked for and Jeff stayed on top of the renovations, communicating each step of the way. Every worker was professional and the final product is elegant and functional. We were very happy with Kurtis and would choose Shanna and Jeff again.
We love our new kitchen! Kurtis Kitchen & Bath did an outstanding job, and Adrian at the Clarkston location was exceptional to work with—creative, patient, and really listened to what we wanted. The project was well-organized, and we went from demo to a fully functioning kitchen in just 30 days. Highly recommend!
