The Sizing Elements of Bathroom Vanities
Kitchen Remodeling May 22
The sheer number of selections available when picking a vanity can make the task overwhelming. One can focus too much on narrowing down the style, design, and color options and forget about an equally critical aspect, which is size. The size of a vanity will determine how well a bathroom furnishing project turns out. An oversized vanity can make a bathroom feel cramped, while a small one can leave too much space. When taking on a bathroom remodel project, designers and homeowners should know what requires priority besides the length and width of the vanity during its sizing.
The Existing Space
When calculating the vanity size, one has to think about where it is going to sit. Firstly, the remodeler or designer has to look at the features that already exist in the bathroom. The mirrors, electrical installations, and lighting all affect how a vanity fits in the available area. A vanity should not be big enough as to block electrical switches or mirrors. The same goes for the plumbing system running through the bathroom.A homeowner should aim for a vanity that is suitable in width and length to fit in the bathroom without requiring pipes to be moved. Another factor is the traffic flow. For the bathroom design to optimize the existing space for traffic, the vanity must not block entryways. The main door and the shower door, if there is one, should allow access so that individuals do not have to squeeze through. When the drawers of the vanity are open, they should not disrupt movement around the bathroom.
Storage Needs
Vanities provide ample storage to help with decluttering in the bathroom. Consequently, the size of the vanity will determine how much it can accommodate. Before a homeowner can decide which vanity best matches the bathroom design, he or she should identify several specific needs. For instance, if an individual requires a vanity with drawers on both sides of the cabinet, that will factor into the measurements. The width of the vanity will dictate the number of sinks that can sit on it. If a homeowner wants a vanity with two sinks, it must be big enough to accommodate them.
Personal Preferences
A bathroom is not supposed to be just functional; it should fulfill the personal style of the person using it. Personal preferences help a great deal with vanity sizing. If a homeowner wants a vessel sink on the vanity, it will affect the size of the cabinet. The number and type of faucets that a homeowner prefers will also determine how wide and tall the vanity should be.Vanities are not just storage spaces for the bathroom and bedroom; they are decorative pieces as well that can change the dynamic of the place. It is necessary for homeowners to know what to look for when measuring a vanity to avoid ruining interior design with the wrong cabinets.

From start to finish Kurtis was a great company to work with. From the initial contact and design concept with Gregory Holster to the cabinet drop off team, the install team led by project manager Jeff Tuomi and the countertop company, the project was on time and all work was performed beyond expectations. This was greatly appreciated seeing as it was completed on December 23. All the people involved were professional and did an excellent job.
Shanna was our project consultant. Picking out cabinets along with counters can be somewhat overwhelming but her knowledge & experience helped us make the right decisions. Dylan & Juwan unloaded truck & Dylan check off ship ticket to make sure all boxes were accounted for. Courteous & pleasant to talk to…nice job of stacking everything neatly in our garage. We couldn't be more pleased with the service & so happy with our kitchen
We recently worked with Lauren on cabinetry for a master bathroom renovation. She was great to work on the design and selections. Lauren was efficient and responsive from cabinet selection through ordering. Our overall installation was smooth. We had some unforeseen circumstances impacting our ability to accept delivery of our cabinets on the initial agreed upon date. Kurtis was very accommodating in rescheduling delivery given our project challenges. We couldn't be happier with our cabinets for this project.
We had complete renovations to our kitchen and main bathroom. From start to finish, the design with Shanna was exactly what we asked for and Jeff stayed on top of the renovations, communicating each step of the way. Every worker was professional and the final product is elegant and functional. We were very happy with Kurtis and would choose Shanna and Jeff again.
We love our new kitchen! Kurtis Kitchen & Bath did an outstanding job, and Adrian at the Clarkston location was exceptional to work with—creative, patient, and really listened to what we wanted. The project was well-organized, and we went from demo to a fully functioning kitchen in just 30 days. Highly recommend!
