The countertop is a widely used surface in the home, which is why during a remodel, a homeowner has to be keen on the material used. Another aspect that influences the functionality of the countertop is the design of the edges. The way they are shaped will affect the appearance of the entire surface and, consequently, the look of the kitchen. From straight cut lines to curved types, countertop edges match a host of kitchen remodeling ideas; one just has to know what is suitable where. Details are vital when deciding the style of a kitchen remodel, and the countertop edges are a few ways to set one cooking area apart from another.

Bullnose

A bullnose countertop edge can be full or half. The profile is round and smooth, which adds a soft touch to the countertop style. It is gentle when bumped into, making it ideal for a home with young children. The roundness means that when liquids spill on the surface, they don’t drip to the floor. Instead, they trickle to the front of the cabinet. A full bullnose will make a countertop edge look thinner than a half-nose.

Bevel

The corner is angular but only subtly with most standard edges sitting at about 45 degrees. Beveled edges are matched with contemporary kitchen remodeling ideas, but it is possible to customize it to suit the décor. There is also the choice of a double beveled edge, which is suitable for a wide countertop. Due to its angular style, a beveled edge allows spills to drip on the floor.

Mitered

The profile consists of two pieces that make the countertop appear thicker without the disadvantage of extra weight. A second frame is used to wrap the sides of the countertop. One downside is that it can be difficult to achieve pattern consistency between the two pieces.

Ogee

t is a concave-styled edge with ripples and coves to accentuate it. The curved lines give the profile a simple but formal look. Ogee countertop edges are more prone to chipping than other styles. A homeowner can also get the double ogee, which has two concave radiuses, adding to the elegance of the profile.

Square

quare edges are some of the standard choices for countertops because they complement all themes. The corners are not too sharp, thereby avoiding chipping and injuries; rather, they are designed with kerfs, which are small cuts to smooth the edges.

Triple Pencil

The profile is made up of three-quarter-inch radius domes that lie on top of each other. It results in a fancy edge that is suitable for marble and granite countertops. The prominent nature of the profile can, however, overpower the rest of the décor. Countertop edges should receive as much attention as the color, material, and quality factors when picking surfaces to match with specific kitchen remodeling ideas.

From start to finish Kurtis was a great company to work with. From the initial contact and design concept with Gregory Holster to the cabinet drop off team, the install team led by project manager Jeff Tuomi and the countertop company, the project was on time and all work was performed beyond expectations. This was greatly appreciated seeing as it was completed on December 23. All the people involved were professional and did an excellent job.

Shanna was our project consultant. Picking out cabinets along with counters can be somewhat overwhelming but her knowledge & experience helped us make the right decisions. Dylan & Juwan unloaded truck & Dylan check off ship ticket to make sure all boxes were accounted for. Courteous & pleasant to talk to…nice job of stacking everything neatly in our garage. We couldn't be more pleased with the service & so happy with our kitchen

We recently worked with Lauren on cabinetry for a master bathroom renovation. She was great to work on the design and selections. Lauren was efficient and responsive from cabinet selection through ordering. Our overall installation was smooth. We had some unforeseen circumstances impacting our ability to accept delivery of our cabinets on the initial agreed upon date. Kurtis was very accommodating in rescheduling delivery given our project challenges. We couldn't be happier with our cabinets for this project.

We had complete renovations to our kitchen and main bathroom. From start to finish, the design with Shanna was exactly what we asked for and Jeff stayed on top of the renovations, communicating each step of the way. Every worker was professional and the final product is elegant and functional. We were very happy with Kurtis and would choose Shanna and Jeff again.

We love our new kitchen! Kurtis Kitchen & Bath did an outstanding job, and Adrian at the Clarkston location was exceptional to work with—creative, patient, and really listened to what we wanted. The project was well-organized, and we went from demo to a fully functioning kitchen in just 30 days. Highly recommend!
